Ο πρίγκιπας Harry, η σύζυγός του Meghan Markle και ο Archie, το τεσσάρων μηνών αγοράκι τους, άρχισαν σήμερα στον νότο της Αφρικής την πρώτη τους επίσημη οικογενειακή επίσκεψη, μετά τη γέννηση του παιδιού τους. Ο δούκας και η δούκισσα του Sussex έφθασαν το μεσημέρι στο Κέιπ Τάουν με αεροσκάφος της γραμμής, καθώς πρόσφατα αποδοκιμάστηκαν για τα ταξίδια που έκαναν με ιδιωτικό τζετ.

Κατά τη δεκαήμερη περιοδεία τους, ο Χάρι θα επισκεφθεί την Μποτσουάνα, την Ανγκόλα και το Μαλάουι, ενώ η Meghan θα μείνει στη Νότια Αφρική για να παραστεί σε διάφορες εκδηλώσεις.

Στο πρόγραμμά τους περιλαμβάνεται επίσκεψη στο μουσείο του District 6 που τιμά χιλιάδες οικογένειες που εκδιώχθηκαν βίαια την εποχή του απαρτχάιντ, από αυτή τη συνοικία που είναι δίπλα στο επιχειρηματικό κέντρο του Κέιπ Τάουν όπου είχαν πρόσβαση μόνο οι λευκοί. Από το District 6 εκδιώχθηκαν 6.000 έγχρωμοι κάτοικοι και εξορίστηκαν σε «townships», δηλαδή στα γκέτο που δημιουργούνταν περιφερειακά των μεγάλων πόλεων για έγχρωμους πολίτες την εποχή του απαρτχάιντ. Από την Πέμπτη, ο πρίγκιπας Χάρι θα συνεχίσει μόνος την περιοδεία του στην περιοχή.

The royal couple were visiting a township near Cape Town — their first stop on a ten-day African tour — where they were greeted with a lively party and plenty of hugs and high fives. The couple had specially chosen to first visit the township of Nyanga, which is the murder capital of South Africa — a country known for having one of the world’s highest homicide rates. They wanted to see for themselves the work of the Justice Desk, a human rights organisation that is helping youngsters and women who are often the victims of violence. The charity is supported by the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, which has Harry as its president and Meghan as vice-president. They were greeted with hugs, kisses, female dances in traditional costume, musicians playing and ecstatic youngsters waving their national flag. In tribute to the region, Meghan wore a dress by the label Mayamiko, an ethical and sustainable woman’s wear and life style brand, producing clothes made in Malawi.
